At the Dental Residence, we love our gadgets. Not only because we're dental nerds but because they allow us to provide you with quicker, cheaper, safer and more comfortable treatments.
One of the 'gadgets' we're most proud of is our CEREC digital scanner and dental crown machine that literally allows us to construct your entire crown or bridge while you wait. Without this gismo, crowns take at least two visits to the dentists several weeks apart!
Dental crowns require serious consideration and so we provide free 30 min consultations for patients who feel they may need a crown and would like a professional opinion.
What is a Crown
Dental crowns provide both a medical and cosmetic function. A crown is an artificial tooth designed to replace a tooth that badly broken or decayed. It's made from porcelain so looks and acts almost exactly like your own tooth.
Importantly, crowns sit on top of the base of your natural tooth. Removing the base of your tooth can have serious and costly implications for your future oral health. This includes deterioration of the bone in your jaw! That is why dentists will always work as hard as possible to save the healthy parts of your natural tooth structure.
How Does the CEREC Machine Work?
We're glad you asked. The CEREC digital scanner uses state-of-the-art software that creates impressions of the entire jaw—to design crowns and bridges. The scanner provides us with immediate access to clinical information needed to quickly build crowns and restore your smile. We then use diamond cutters to produce your perfect fitting crown, at the same appointment.
